St. Elmo senior acts as Rep. Stephens’ Page for a Day

Springfield….
Alex Gillespie of St. Elmo served as a page for Rep. Ron Stephens (R-Highland) on February 27 as part of the Page for a Day program. Alex is a senior at St. Elmo High School and the son of Ricke and Terri Gillespie.

Alex is considering attending Lake Land College in Mattoon to study history in the fall. He was selected to participate in the Page for a Day program because of his hard work on behalf of area veterans. Alex has been particularly active in preserving the stories of local World War II veterans.

Rep. Stephens donated the spot in the Page for a Day program to the Family YMCA of Fayette County for their annual auction. Kirk Feller purchased the honor in the auction and donated it to the St. Elmo Devonian, with instructions that the newspaper find a high school student worthy of receiving it. Alex was selected after the Devonian contacted the local high school and asked the teachers what student they thought should be able to take part in the program.

“Alex is a fine young man, who will go far and make his parents proud,” Rep. Stephens said. “It was my honor to have him as a page for the day.”
