Bill Allowing For DUI Memorial Markers Signed Into Law

Springfield….
Legislation allowing a relative of someone killed by a drunk driver to apply for a DUI memorial marker was signed by the governor today, according to Representative Ron Stephens (R-Highland).

House Bill 4736, which was co-sponsored by Stephens, provides that an application for a DUI memorial marker may be submitted by a qualified relative with regard to any crash that occurred on or after January 1, 1990. This changes a previous law that said the crash had to have occurred on or after January 1, 2003.

“This legislation will allow for the loved ones of those taken in DUI-related accidents to remember those they lost,” Rep. Stephens said.
